HLTH 1200 - Long-Term Care - CNA 6.5 Credits
The course meets the Nebraska Health and Human Services System training requirements for nursing assistant certification and employment in long-term care facilities. The course combines classroom lecture, laboratory application, and clinical experience for development of basic skills needed to care for the elderly. Course content focuses on teaching nursing assistants to provide safe, effective, and caring services to the elderly or chronically ill patients of any age in a long-term care facility.
Prerequisites: (2) 16 years of age; and documented proficiency in English

Course Objectives
- Perform basic physical nursing assistant skills in a safe, comprehensive manner, as identified by the Nebraska Department of Health Rules and Regulations.
- Utilize problem-solving skills to safely meet basic individual needs of the patient.
- Recognize and implement nursing assistant interventions that will help the patient achieve maximal activities of daily living skills.
- Identify and report obvious physical and psychological abnormalities.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the aging process in each body system
- Demonstrate a beginning understanding of the disease process affecting each body system
- Demonstrate effective communication with patient and health care team members.
