ENGL 0990 - Composition Studio

Students receive supplemental instruction that aligns with their paired section of ENGL 1010 . The course focuses on rhetorical awareness, critical reading, writing, and thinking; the writing process; and conventions through workshops, conferences, discussions, and individualized instruction.

Course Objectives
  1. Use writing and reading for inquiry, learning, critical thinking, and communicating.
  2. ​Recognize how genres shape reading and writing.
  3. Write thesis-driven academic essays (assigned in the paired ENGL 1010 class) that respond to the needs of an audience and rhetorical situation and that are organized and developed to best achieve that purpose.
  4. Use a writing process, developing flexible strategies for prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and proofreading.
  5. Critique their own writing and the writing of others.
  6. Exhibit knowledge of conventions.
  7. Demonstrate academic behaviors that promote success, including regularly attending class, arriving ready to engage in work, participating in class discussions, and studying and completing assignments.
