ELAP 1220 - Electrical IIB


7.0 Credits

Students learn the design and installation of complete residential electrical systems with emphasis on the National Electric Code (N.E.C.). Through classroom instruction and projects, they gain an understanding of how to layout the electrical system for a residential occupancy. Students learn the requirements for low voltage wiring, detection systems, appliances and swimming pools and spas.

Course Objectives
  1. Interpret what the lighting and branch circuit requirements are for various areas of a residential occupancy.
  2. Describe the requirements and wiring methods for special purpose outlets and systems in a residential occupancy.
  3. Describe the requirements and wiring methods for low voltage, signal, warning and security systems in a residence.  
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of the N.E.C. requirements for lighting and appliance outlets, circuitry and installation for a residence.
  5. Explain the equipment used, and the methods for calculating the size and installation of, a residential electrical service. 
  6. Explain the methods used and requirements for electrical installations involving pools and spas, and home automation, standby power and utility interactive systems.
