DIMA 1220 - Character, Narrative, and Storyboard Development 4.5 Credits
This course explores the basic principles of film structure and animation through observation, concept, narrative development, character design, and storyboard creation. It emphasizes the practice of drawing as a communication process to visualize stories that work as strong animation. Central activities include collaboration, brainstorming, oral presentation, and critiques.

Course Objectives
- Understand the importance of narrative, character design, and storyboard in planning and visualizing an animated film.
- Create, develop, and visualize character through the process of drawing.
- Create an original character in 3 dimensions using appropriate materials.
- Create a character model sheet and background/location studies.
- Author original stories and create original storyboards.
- Integrate editing and camera techniques and movements into story and character development.
- Successfully ‘Pitch’ final project portfolio realizing a predetermined concept and outline.
