DESL 2240 - Emissions and Maintenance 4.0 Credits
Students study today’s newest emission control systems and engine maintenance. Focus is on how to tune-up and maintain the latest diesel engine after-treatment systems.
Prerequisites: (1) DESL 2220 with a grade of C or better

Course Objectives
- Work safely in the shop/lab without harm to oneself or other students.
- Gain the skill of tool usage through the hands on use of the student’s tools and equipment/tools supplied by the college.
- Perform valve adjustments on heavy duty diesel engines.
- Identify maintenance intervals for recommended valve adjustments.
- Properly diagnose component failures.
- Explain the function and theory of compression brakes, egr, scr, and def systems.
- Gain technical skill by disassembling systems and reassembling emissions related parts and systems.
- Properly diagnose component failures by performing 3 and 7 above.
- Understand and use diagnostic equipment to perform emission related regenerations and dosing routines.
- Diagnose electrical and electronic failures or fault codes in emission related OBD components.
