DESL 2110 - Heavy Equipment Drivetrain

Students study heavy equipment traction drives, brake systems, differentials, and their steering systems along with track and suspension systems.

Prerequisites: (1) DESL 1000  with a C or better

Course Objectives
  1. Work safely in the shop/laboratory without harm to oneself or other students 
  2. Gain the skill of tool usage through the hands-on use of the student’s tools & hydraulic equipment/tools supplied by the college  
  3. Perform HE drivetrain component disassembly, inspection and assembly with a strong emphasis on quality work and cleanliness  
  4. Identify HE drivetrain parts and components with accepted industry terminology and schematics 
  5. Diagnose sophisticated HE drivetrain component failures 
  6. Explain the function and theory of HE drivetrain system components with proper terminology  
  7. Properly disassemble and assemble several HE drivetrain pumps, motors, valves, and suspension components  
  8. Properly use specialty HE rebuilding tools
  9. Use of industry standard and OEM HE terminology in oral and written communications
