ARTS 2040 - Printmaking 4.5 Credits
This course provides an introduction to the theory and practice of traditional printmaking. Students learn relief, intaglio, and monoprinting techniques and create multiples using historic print processes such as etching and relief printing.
Prerequisites: (2) ARTS 1010 and ARTS 1020

Course Objectives 1. Create printed editions to demonstrate skill with a variety of printmaking equipment, tools and an etching press.
2. Design and prepare print matrixes for relief and intaglio printing.
3. Create a consistent edition of relief and intaglio prints following traditional standards.
4. Create a body of monoprints that demonstrate an understanding of how to combine print media utilizing techniques such as screen printing, collograph, monotype, pronto plate lithography and other contemporary printing techniques.
5. Use correct terminology to analyze, judge and interpret a printed work.
6. Investigate the work of historical and contemporary print artists through written assignments and/or oral presentations.
