ARTS 2025 - Watercolor 4.5 Credits
This course introduces water media to beginning students. Students explore color, composition, and a variety of techniques, such as wet-in-wet, dry brush, and mixed media. Students develop an individual approach to painting with an emphasis on technique. The course also covers a variety of subject matter to include objective reality and subjective imagination.

Course Objectives 1. Produce a portfolio of work that includes representational and abstract imagery from original source material, with increasing proficiency.
2. Demonstrate proficiency with traditional watercolor techniques including washes, texture, layering.
3. Demonstrate skill with brushwork, masking tools, and working with paper effectively.
4. Solve painting problems related to design, 2 dimensional pictorial space and color.
5. Make preliminary sketches for paintings that reflect creative problem solving and individual expression.
6. Use the language of art and design to describe and analyze finished paintings in a class critique setting.
7. Investigate the work of historical and contemporary watercolor artists through specific assignments.
